Professor Christopher Pelling

‘The great thing for me about studying classics for fifty years is that every decade has brought something new.

When I was 15, I loved getting the endings right; when I was 25 I was fascinated by the political and military history; by 35 I was a literary critic; by 45 I was deeply involved in the ethical thinking; at 55 I was back into the politics again.

‘And all through the greatest pleasure has been talking about it all to others who cared just as much – learning from others, teaching others, and just talking. These are wonderful texts, and they can always give you something new.’
