On 6 March 2014 a wonderful evening was held at Middle Temple Hall, with an inspired evening of music by cellist Ralph Kirshbaum accompanied by pianist Shai Wosner, in memory of Professor Erich Segal. Professor Segal was remembered eloquently by his friends and collaborators Professor Fergus Millar and Ralph Kirshbaum. As a fundraising event for Classics for All, the audience enjoyed an appearance and opening remarks from our patron Boris Johnson, who explored ‘the forbidden question: where do we find the true heirs of the classical tradition?”
After the interval, we heard from David Hogg, head of English at Kelmscott school in Walthamstow, and what he had to say about the extraordinary benefits from introducing Latin at his school was inspiring. Everyone left with a spring in their step, and new donations poured in over the following days.
