Help more pupils in state schools to access Classics
Over the past 15 years, Classics for All has trained and supported more than 5,000 teachers to introduce and sustain Classics to 200,000 state school pupils. Through studying the ancient world, children can discover more about themselves and the world around them.
Our vision is that all pupils in state schools across the UK should have the opportunity to study classical subjects, regardless of their ability or background. Including Classics for All in your will is a powerful way to support the next generation of young classicists without contributing today.
Studying classical subjects can help to increase children’s literacy, develop a love of learning and boost cultural awareness and capital. By studying subjects which are often perceived as elitist and only for those at independent schools, pupils are raising their aspirations.
‘We have raised pupils’ aspirations and have offered them a pathway to better universities by offering them a more level standing.’

‘If I am able to provide the access point for just one child from a similar background to discover the wonder of the rich tradition of the classical languages and their civilisations, then I will have helped to provide some of the tools necessary for that child to break out of the confines of its environment.’
Julian Manfredi, Marcus Aurelius Circle member
A legacy pledge from you today will sow the seeds for the future and allow even more state school pupils to discover and learn from the ancient world’s languages, history and culture.
Gifts in wills are free from Inheritance Tax and there are three types of gift that you can leave: a residual gift (the remainder or a percentage of your estate), a pecuniary gift (cash) or a specific legacy (an item of personal property, such as jewellery or shares). We are grateful for legacy gifts of all sizes, which will help to ensure that we can continue training and supporting teachers to confidently and effectively teach Classics in their classrooms.
We always recommend using a solicitor to create or amend a will. If you already have one, you can complete a simple codicil form to update it. You can download our form here or contact us to request a paper version through emailing [email protected]
Marcus Aurelius Circle
To thank our legacy pledgers within their lifetime, we invite everyone who has pledged a gift in their will to join the Marcus Aurelius Circle. Members are kept informed of the charity’s progress and invited to occasional events.
