For the past three years, Classics for All has been running two day Continuing Professional Development courses in Latin and Greek for state school teachers. These take place at the end of August and are hosted by Harrow School in London.
Demand for these courses is growing and, in August 2019, we were delighted to welcome 40 primary and secondary state school teachers to Harrow. As in previous years, participants were offered two day courses in Beginners’ Latin, Beginners’ Greek and Intermediate Latin. We also introduced two new courses: the first for those interested in teaching classics at primary level, and the second for those looking to build their confidence in teaching Greek and Latin GCSE set texts.
Teachers travelled from across the country to attend the course – from Durham to Somerset, and from Folkestone to Crickhowell – and feedback was extremely positive.
“I now feel motivated to go ahead and launch a Latin or Greek after-school club in my school with a view to putting it into whole class teaching next year. This training was targeted and relevant and just exactly what I was hoping for.” Primary teacher from The Flitch Green Academy, Essex
“I will now be able to confidently design and teach lessons to Year 7 from September. 200 children will be introduced to Latin this academic year which is very exciting!” Secondary teacher from Priory School, Lewes
Courses are free and support with travel and accommodation costs is available for teachers travelling from outside Greater London. We are particularly grateful for the continued support of Harrow School, without which we would be unable to provide this training opportunity for so many teachers.
